90 years of independence :D

Tue Nov 11, 2008, 6:15 AM
  • Mood: Pride
So, today my country celebrates 90th anniversary of recovery of independence after 123 years of being an annexed territory of Russia, German and Austria-Hungary.
It was on November 11th 1918, when Fisrt World War aka Great War was officially finished. At this day many of old european countries beside Poland also recovered independence e.g. Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia. Lithuania, Latvia, Austria, Hungary, etc. or the new countries were born.

And there was one man, maybe You don't expect it was him... but it was American! Concretely it was 28th President of United States - Woodrow Wilson - the man who first decided about Polish independence in his 14-points proclamation. The 13th point was just about Poland:

"An independent Polish state should be erected which should include the territories inhabited by indisputably Polish populations, which should be assured a free and secure access to the sea, and whose political and economic independence and territorial integrity should be guaranteed by international covenant."

I think it's a small thank/revenge(in the positive meaning of this word :P) for fact that Poles(Tadeus Kosciusko and Kazimierz Pulaski) combated for independence of United States in 18th century just between 1775 and 1783. Yes, we were. ;) We were fighting for Your freedom americans(I write it now just for DA users from United States). ;)
And You(President Woodrow Wilson in Your name) were postulating for our independence 140 years later. ;)
We thank You americans! :) What could we do without You. :) (And You without us. ;))

Well... that's all I can write about it. I can't write more because I'm not a historic. :P

And what whould I say yet... I'm proud of being a Pole! :D
